Three figures to check for two sleepers
- Bed width. From 47 in to 68 in in this list. Two adults on 47 in is close quarters.

- Weight against your roof. Two people do not change the driving load, but the tent does: this list runs from 108.86 lb (Naturnest Andromeda) to 246 lb (23ZERO Armadillo Horizon 3), as published. Run the check with Will my roof carry it?
Parked, with two people inside, the load on the roof is the tent, the rack, the bedding and both of you. It must stay within the static rating of your roof and rack, and the ladder within its own rating (ARB publishes "Aluminum retractable, 264.5 lb rating" for the Flinders ladder at Overland Kitted, and "330 lb rating" for the Esperance 2 at Trail Recon).

How wide should a rooftop tent be for two adults?
No maker sets a rule. We kept tents with a published bed at least 47 in wide. If you both sleep wide, look down the width column for 54 in and up: the ARB Flinders (55.2 in), the ROAM Vagabond 2.0 (56 in) or the Roofnest Falcon 3 EVO XL Air (57 in).
Is a 2-3 person tent better for two?
It is wider, which many couples want, and heavier: the Roofnest Falcon 3 EVO Air (sleeps 2) is published at 130 lb and the XL (sleeps 2-3) at 160 lb. Check the extra weight against your roof rating before you size up.
Do these tents fit a small SUV?
