This is every rooftop tent we could read on November 7, 2026: 47 tents from 9 brands, at 8 stores. Prices run from $1,099 to $4,700, published weights from 90 to 280 lb, closed heights from 4.3 to 16.5 in. Before you pick, two checks narrow the list to what your vehicle can take: Will my roof carry it? and Fits my crew and garage.
All tents, cheapest first
Each row gives the figure as published; the basis is in brackets when a maker weighs or measures something different from the others. When a page gives two figures, we keep the less favorable one (the heavier weight, the taller closed height, the shorter bed) and say so.

How we compare: criteria, sources and dates
How to read these figures
- Weight is what counts against your roof and rack. iKamper publishes a range for each Skycamp 4.0 (tent with brackets, then with ladder and mattress): we use the top of the range. 23ZERO weighs its tents with rails and ladder. Rhino-Rack's soft shell has only a shipping weight on the page we read, so it stays "not published".
- Sleeps is the maker's range; the tools use its top figure.
- Bed is the published sleeping length by width. The longest published beds, 94 to 96 in, are on fold-out tents (ROAM Vagabond, ARB Flinders, Yakima SkyRise SL, Roofnest Condor 2 XXL Air); the clamshells and wedges in our list run from 78.74 to 85 in.
- Closed height matters for garages and wind. Cascadia publishes the Cirrus at 4.75 in for the tent body only, without rails and crossbars; most others give the packed tent without saying what is included.
Where two sellers carry the same tent
We matched sellers by part number (SKU) only. On November 7, 2026: ROAM sold the Vagabond 2.0 (SKU ROAM-RTT-VB2-BLK) at $2,040 with a $2,550 compare-at price, while Overland Kitted listed it at $2,550; the Vagabond XL 2.0 was $2,399.20 at ROAM and $2,999 at Overland Kitted. The ARB Flinders (803300A) was $1,689 at both Trail Recon and Overland Kitted, out of stock at Overland Kitted; the ARB Esperance 2 (802200V2) was $2,599.95 at Trail Recon and $2,890 at Overland Kitted, out of stock there too. Every table on this site lists the cheapest seller in stock first.
What this list leaves out
Thule (Tepui) tents: thule.com answered our reader with a bot check. Smittybilt and 23ZERO's own store refused our reader (error 403) and Front Runner's catalog was not readable; 23ZERO tents are listed through Overland Kitted. iKamper's co-branded Rivian editions of the Skycamp 4.0 were left out. ARB's Simpson, the first Esperance and the Altitude were left out because no weight was published on the pages we read; Cascadia's Pioneer soft shells for the same reason. Keep narrowing
- Hard shell vs soft shell: the published weights, heights and prices by shell type.

- ROAM vs iKamper, figure by figure.
- Rooftop tent weight limits and which roof rack.
- What a night costs once the tent is paid off.
Frequently asked questions
Which rooftop tent is the best?
The one your roof and rack can carry, that fits your crew and your garage, at the lowest price. That is why our picks follow written rules instead of a score: each badge says which condition the tent meets and that it was the cheapest in stock to meet it on November 7, 2026.
Why are some figures marked not published?
Because the maker or the seller did not publish them on the pages we read. Yakima publishes no sleeping capacity for its SkyRise and SkyPeak tents; Cascadia publishes weights and heights by size but no sleeping area. We never fill the gap with an estimate.
Are the prices up to date?
They are the prices the stores showed on November 7, 2026, including sale prices: ROAM's site showed "EARLY BLACK FRIDAY LIVE", and Roofnest and Naturnest showed compare-at prices. A struck-through price is the store's own compare-at price. Check the store before you buy.
Is the cheapest seller always the brand?
No. ROAM sells the Vagabond 2.0 for less than Overland Kitted on our check date because of ROAM's sale; ARB tents are not sold by ARB's US site in a form we could read, so we list Trail Recon and Overland Kitted, cheapest first.
